Lake Bursol is a salt lake located in the north of the Altai Republic. It is known for its unique natural landscape, medicinal properties and unusually picturesque views.
The lake area is about 42 square kilometers, and its waters are saturated with salt and minerals. In summer, the banks of Bursol are covered with snow-white salt, which makes the landscape especially spectacular – the surface of the water sparkles in the sun, resembling a snowy plain.
The lake is popular among tourists and lovers of ecological recreation. Many people come here not only to admire the nature, take unforgettable beautiful photos, but also for health treatments – the mud and water of Bursol are considered healing.
Despite the growing interest, the lake still remains sparsely populated, which makes it especially attractive to those seeking privacy and harmony with nature.
Railway on Lake Bursol
One of the unique features of Lake Bursol is the narrow-gauge railway, laid directly on the salt marsh bottom. It was built in Soviet times for industrial salt mining, which is still carried out here today.
The rails run along the surface covered with crystallized salt, and create the impression that the road goes into an endless white desert. This unusual landscape is often compared to Martian or snowy landscapes.
The railway is still used to export salt, but in recent years it has also attracted tourists and photographers, becoming one of the “calling cards” of Lake Bursol. The salt-covered carriages and the rails stretching into the distance against the clear sky create an impressive picture that is impossible to forget.
