The outlook for the summer tourism season remains fairly restrained. According to the UN Tourism Confidence Index, the figure for May–August stands at 105 points out of 200.
For comparison, the forecast for January–April was noticeably higher at 117 points. At the same time, 31% of the experts surveyed believe that this year’s tourism season will be worse or significantly worse than last year.
Airfares began rising back in the spring. One of the main reasons for the increase in flight prices was the rise in oil prices. The war in the Middle East is putting additional pressure on the aviation market, creating new complications for international air travel.
The situation was further aggravated by the closure of major airports in the Persian Gulf countries. As a result, the number of available seats on some routes between Europe and Asia has decreased. Limited supply amid continued demand has become another factor driving up airfares.
