Travel experts have revealed which popular European tourist destinations they believe are not living up to expectations and which places are best avoided when planning a vacation. They also named the countries with the most and least “overrated” resorts, highlighting France, Italy, Spain and Greece.
The most overrated places in Europe:
🔹 France – According to writer Anthony Peregrine, Saint-Tropez is not worth visiting. The town with a population of only 3,500 people is filled with crowds during the tourist season – up to 80 thousand vacationers. The narrow streets are overcrowded, and prices for housing and entertainment remain high. Instead, he recommends checking out other Mediterranean villages that are every bit as beautiful as Saint-Tropez.

🔹 Spain – Writer Sally Davis believes that Seville has lost its charm over the past 30 years. Now 60% of local housing is rented to tourists, and there are more expats on the streets than locals. While the city remains beautiful, it no longer has the authentic feel that people once loved it for.

🔹 Italy – Journalist Lee Marshall called Venice the most overrated city in the country. He notes that, for all its beauty, Venice suffers from an excessive influx of tourists. This is due to affordable flights and the city’s popularity on social media, which is why the number of tourists here is twice as large as the number of locals.

🔹 Greece – Writer Heidi Fuller-Love believes that Mykonos has been spoiled by uncontrolled development, a multitude of new hotels and beach clubs. In addition, the prices for food and sun lounger rentals are inflated.
